TBSO Announces Season 63! Your Community. Your Music.

On Friday May 5th, TBSO launched their 23/24 concert season.

“We have put together an exciting collection of concerts we think will excite and delight a variety of people, for both existing audiences and folks who might not have joined us before,” says Executive Director and General Manager, Ryleigh Dupuis. “So we were very keen to create incredible musical experiences that would appeal to all members of our community.”

The first piece on the first concert of the season is titled: Music for a Celebration. That is the tone this season aims to take. Celebration – of music, of community. Opening with a stunning show featuring the TBSO’s concertmaster, Thomas Cosbey, the Masterworks series will feature performances by Kevin Chen, Sharon Wei and Scott St John, and Soprano Rachel Krehm with works by Barber, Mozart, Beethoven, and Canadian composer, Ryan Trew. The Pops series opens with Jeans ‘n Classics bringing us the music of Rocky Horror Picture Show followed by an incredible, interactive Bhangra concert conducted by Daniel Bartholomew-Poyser and an exuberant lineup that includes an evening of music with Jim Witter, Quartetto Gelato, and a collaboration with Badanai Theatre Co on Dolly Parton’s Broadway production, 9 to 5, that promises to be a showstopper.

By popular demand, ‘The Spirit Horse Returns’, will come back for a repeat performance on the Family series along with the classic Beethoven Lives Upstairs. The Northern Lights series includes Spencer Hari, Shy-Anne Hovorka, and Flamenco Caravan. Specials include a night featuring the music of Gordon Lightfoot and one of the annual highlights of the season, Noondaagotoon!

In addition to the traditional concerts you’ve come to know and love, in celebration of the 50th anniversary season of the Thunder Bay Symphony Chorus, the TBSO is launching a new choral series that will take place at the beautiful St. Paul’s United Church entitled, Voices. “We are absolutely delighted to celebrate our TBSC in this way. Working with them to present this wonderful series on our 2023/24 program is truly an honour,” says Dupuis. “We are sure you’re going to love it.”

Another new addition to this season is the Hilldale Chamber Series. This series features the musicians of the TBSO in an intimate concert experience, performing daring and innovative chamber music that we’re sure audiences will love, in a venue that shows them off at their finest.. This series will dazzle concertgoers who love being up close and personal with the music!
