Felix Mendelssohn: Symphony No. 1 in C minor, Op. 11

Featuring

Paul Haas, conductor

Kristy Tucker, bassoon

We start with McGrath’s Suite for Strings. This piece features an eclectic mix of driving and percussive, lyrically delicate and intentionally cinematic music. Mozart’s wonderful Bassoon Concerto features TBSO Principal Bassoon Kristy Tucker. Mozart draws out the many characters from bold and comedic to expressive and tender, which makes the bassoon so popular with audiences. Mendelssohn Symphony No. 1 combines the young composer’s love of both Mozart classical style and structure and Bach’s baroque counterpoint. With this piece, he confirms his precocious brilliance.
