Featuring NWO’s Rising Talent, Cassandra Star

Cassandra Star Armstrong is 10 years old and lives in Fort Frances, Ontario with her Mom, big sister Callahan, big brother Christian & new puppy “Rainy”. She has always loved music, dancing & performing and started singing as soon as she could talk. Cassandra has 7 years of dance training, 5 years of vocal lessons & 2 years of songwriting & acting.

In March of 2020, when the pandemic began, Cassandra wanted to help bring joy & comfort to kids who were feeling sad & isolated with school closing, so she created her own virtual Storytime and in only a few months she shared over 100 stories. One of the authors of the books she shared, Carolyn Sloan of New York, invited Cassandra to sing her original song “Give Love” along with some Broadway stars. This opened more doors and she began virtual singing lessons with Dan Micciche who is the musical director of Broadway’s Wicked. Cassandra has been a part of multiple masterclasses working with Dan & Michael Orland, who was the musical producer of American Idol for over 16 years. A few weeks ago, Cassandra auditioned for Tony & Emmy Award-winning actress, Kristin Chenoweth’s Broadway Bootcamp. She had to send in videos of her singing & performing multiple pieces, along with a resume, headshot and answer several questions to be judged by a panel of professionals. In mid-April, Cassandra was thrilled to find out she was accepted to attend this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity from June 6-13th.

Cassandra & her 19-year-old sister Callahan often sing together whether it is at church, various community events or just at home for their family. In March, their Nana was admitted to the hospital and needed extra prayers so they decided to surprise her with a recording of them singing an Easter version of Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah with lyrics by Kelley Mooney. The family shared it on their personal Facebook page and within a week the song/video went viral with over 15 million views, including her YouTube channel, Cassandra Star Armstrong. The success of this song has provided more exciting opportunities for the sisters, including being invited to perform at the Museum of the Bible in Washington, D.C. in early 2022.

When the TBSO contacted Cassandra asking her to collaborate with them on 2 Canadian French Folk songs, she was truly honoured. Ah Si mon moin & Ah Toi belle hirondelle began as quite a challenge for Cassandra since she had no previous experience in French. Thanks to the wonderful help from her vocal teacher, Renee Martin-Brown and French teacher Michael Brady, Cassandra was able to learn the French songs in a couple of weeks. She thoroughly enjoyed this challenging & fun experience working with the TBSO and looks forward to more musical projects together.
